. State Treasurer Lynn Fitch and College Savings Mississippi served as the official halftime sponsor at the GridIron Classic State Football Championship this weekend at the Vaught-Hemingway Stadium at the University of Mississippi in Oxford.
"As the mother of three, including one about to head off to college, I know how daunting that looming cost of college can seem," said Treasurer Lynn Fitch
. "I'm thrilled to have the chance to help these six Mississippians save for college expenses. We all win when Mississippi students get a good education without an overwhelming debt."
A total of 12 contestants were given the opportunity to win a $529 Mississippi Affordable College Savings (MACS) program scholarship. Two contestants competed during halftime at each of the six championship games, throwing 30 footballs into a target. The scholarship was awarded to the contestant who hit the target most in 30 seconds.
The six winners were:
- Class 1A Game: Kendall Jenkins of Oxford, MS
- Class 2A Game: Ally Alford of Batesville, MS
- Class 3A Game: Armond Fairley of Cordova, TN
- Class 4A Game: Lakendrick Spann of Macon, MS
- Class 5A Game: Eduardo Rangel of Philadelphia, MS
- Class 6A Game: Jeremiah Dumas of Starkville, MS
MACS is one of the two college savings programs offered through College Savings Mississippi, a division of State Treasurer Fitch's office.
