Treasurer Fitch Announces $100 Million in Unclaimed Property Distributed

Jackson, MSTreasurer Lynn Fitch announced today that the Office of the State Treasurer has distributed over $100 million in unclaimed property since she took office in January 2012.  This represents 53-57% of all the unclaimed property distributed since 1982.  As of July 31, 2019, her office has distributed $100,267,279.59.

“This is the people’s money,” said Treasurer Fitch.  “The State is only holding it until we can find the rightful owners.  My office has made aggressive outreach across the State to reunite Mississippi families and businesses with their money a top priority.

“We have partnered with legislators, local elected leaders, and community groups to find people with potential claims and help them with the claims process.  We have done dozens of events throughout the State to make claiming your money convenient and easy.  The results of this outreach are evident in crossing this $100 million threshold.”

Treasurer Fitch’s unclaimed property team has annually distributed the lists of unclaimed property by legislative district to all of the State’s senators and representatives, provided flash drives of county lists to the supervisors and municipal elected leaders, and provided lists to Rotary Clubs and other community organizations each time she speaks to one.

In addition, the Treasurer’s Unclaimed Property division has operated a booth at the Mississippi State Fair for the past six years and will do so again this October.  They have organized local events in the following communities over the past two years as well:
